Mmm not so much. The writing was pretty good I suppose. But the story required too much suspension of disbelief for me. Reading a story set in the Amazon that features “native” people but doesn’t actually make any of them (save one mute child) real characters was a bummer. Also, how/why would scientists (supposedly good ones) living in a community for decades never bother to learn the language? This is a book written for middle-aged white lady book clubs.
